Essay

   First year , first sem , 8 studio projects , 14 academic weeks , 28 studio lectures. Finally all comes to the end. School of Housing , Building and Planning, HBP, but usually USM students describe HBP as "Hantu Balik Pagi" or "High Blood Pressure".Why? This is because HBP is one of the busiest school in USM. Even though the light of other school is switched off during midnight, but the light of HBP studio sure will lighted up until late night or even until dawn.

   I still remember about the first project brief , produce a black and white self-portrait. First time come in my mind was, was I attending a right lecture? I am taking QS which related to construction industry, why I have to draw?But I know there must be a reason behind everything that our lecturers gave us to do. Project 1 and 2 was really a nightmare for me, I am not a art-based student and never tried to draw or sketch ! Luckily, there are so many coursemates and friends who are good in sketches and painting teach me about the skill and technic.

   Other than that, I also learnt that how to do a site analysis , selection of materials , pricing , costing and also combine joint of timber model. This is the benefits get from the studio project.In addition, i had learnt how communicate with other in a better way. At first i thought that university is a place that you have to done all your work by urself without any help, but most of the lecturers were kind enough to share their experiences and gave us some guides and tips for helping us in completing our project.One of the significant improvement is my drawing and sketching skill, initially I totally blink and don't know how to draw, but now I can sketch something good !

   On the other hand, I learnt how to cooperate with others while working in studio. I also make alot of friends that from different races. This is because all the HBP-ians are just like a big family, helping each other when they are in trouble ! From the RUS 104 intergrated studio, I also learnt that how to work in a team. While project 6 in progress, I finally can feel that team spirit is very important in order to complete project and motivate others.We work as a team and not one man show. This is my experience.

   During the first sem, my friends said that , I am not like a student studying about construction.They said I more like a artist,carpenter,designer, dancer and zombie ! But this is my life, my unique HBP life, I like it, I love it. All the good memories and the thing that I have learnt in RUS 104, I will keep it in my heart and will not forget about it.

      Believe in myself , nothing is impossible.

      Look forward to sem2 RUS 105 studio.I know it will be tougher. But I will accept the challenge !
